Welcome:

On April 24th, 2005, hundreds came to the yearly opening celebrations at the Doukhobor Village Museum in Castlegar, BC. This season, its 33rd, was officially declared open by Her Honour, Iona Campagnolo, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia.

This season's opening was fairly significant in that a major restoration project and museum exhibit for the 2005 season was officially open for the public to view; Doukhobor Pioneers as Seen Through Lantern Slides. This unique exhibit of images from the early 1900s to 1930, took over a year to develop and prepare - totally in-house - and involved research and detective work that spanned from Castlegar to Moscow!

This site was developed to document for the world, the background and history (as we know it) of these autochromes, detail the process by which these glass slides were restored to the point of a print/exhibit, and to show off these images (many of which have never been seen by the public) in an online gallery. If, at any time you would like to go to the Museum site, simply click on the Doukhobor Village Museum logo at the top of any page.

Please check every link in this site which contains valuable information, galleries, videos and other interesting information - and please do enjoy this unique online exhibit!
