Recently Larry Ewashen made
a presentation of Doukhobor culture and heritage at an ethno-cultural
workshop in Vancouver sponsored by the Department of Heritage.
Among the items discussed and presented was the designation of
Peter V. Verigin as a person of national historic significance.
Other local possibilities for designation
currently under discussion are the site of the Doukhobor Village
site as a historic site since it was part of the original properties
purchased by Peter 'Lordly' Verigin in 1908, the Raspberry School
as a historic building, and the immigration of 5,000 Doukhobors
to this area in 1908 as an historic event. |
