and distributed by Ottawa in May of 1907, this poster caused
the 'Land Rush' whereby people bought up prime cultivated
lands the Doukhobors were previously granted, but had now
been taken away from them for their refusal to sign the Oath
of Allegiance and cease farming communally - of which both
of these conditions, the Dominion of Canada had previously
agreed to, but reneged. |
