"Last
year, we did all the shakes for the buildings because
it was time to do it. That was a $50,000 job,"
Ewashen said.
Current
updates have been undertaken by the city as the buildings
are city property.
"We
are delighted the city is spending money on these buildings,"
Ewashen said.
Ewashen
expects work to be completed by the end of September.
"(This
work) was essential to the preservation of the centre.
It is also a matter of safety because some of the planks
were so bad it wasn’t safe for tourists and we
have to keep their safety in mind," Ewashen
said.
He
said there is still a lot of general maintenance and
work to be done and he is hoping next year they get
funding to redo the sidewalks and windows.
