For many years, it was stored in the basement of Ellison
Milling & Elevator Co. Ltd.’s warehouse in Nelson.
It was found by Joseph Kary who was the manager at the time,
and would go on to be the mayor.
"It is unknown whether or not Verigin owned the carriage,"
wrote Laura Fortier for the Touchstones Nelson: Museum of
Art and History. "We assume that the carriage fell
into disuse after Verigin died on October 29, 1924, in an
unexplained train explosion."
The Nelson museum recently determined that they didn’t
have enough room in their building to display the carriage,
even temporarily, so they have donated it to the Doukhobor
Discovery Centre.
Trowelex donated the transportation of the carriage between
the cities, and a new area will be built at the Centre to
house it.
