Verigin Sr. (Honourary Choir Member), Mike Zoobkoff Attributes: Side 1 - Hymns The Lord's Prayer - Russel Verigin Side 2 - Folksongs The Cleared
Fields - Harry Rezansoff Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy, known as a student of life and human nature, a literary great and crusader struggling against censorship, a prophet for his insights into "the way the world works", a human rights pioneer who assisted Doukhobors in their time of distress and need, and a seeker of truth through reason and conscience, still lives among us through his writings. He played a role in facilitating the Doukhobor migration to Canada in 1899 by raising money from the proceeds of his novel "Ressurection" to send them on their journey. In gratitude for his contribution, this recording is dedicated to the building initiative at the Tolstoyan complex currently underway at Yasnaya Polyana near Moscow, Russia. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS The Tri-Choir is an amalgamation of three men's choral groups - the Grand Forks, Kootenay, and Krestova men's Choirs. The three-stemmed olive branch symbolizes their common aspiration - the promotion of harmony and friendship. "The unification of this choir was a wonderful consequence of our combined celebration of the Doukhobor Centennial of 1999. Drawing of membership from three different regional communities, we all share common purpose - the promotion of harmony and friendship through the spirit, message and melody of our Doukhobor song". |
