| Notes: Victoria, BC. May 2001 Reflections of an adventurist, going back 50 years. Frank Konken started in the music field in about 1951. In that year, on one summer day, a group of three, one of whom was Frank, met at Christina Lake, BC. After some vocalizing, which sounded great, the idea of recording was born. A group name, the "Tovarischi" was chosen and their first of several 78 rpm records was released. Others joined the group and they produced some 20 78 rpm's in total. Circumstances caused the group to fold however Frank, continued to record with his wife Ruby. They produced a 45 rpm single, 5 albums, (one with the whole family), audio cassettes and now compact discs. In 1983 Frank and Ruby recorded their song Karmanchiki while jamming in Printers Alley in Nashville Tennessee. In 1984 they preformed their song on the Don Ho Show in Hawaii. In the summer of 1995 Frank serenaded folks in Montreal while traveling with a group. A couple weeks later while traveling in Russia he ventured out onto the stage in St. Petersburg. Today Frank
and Ruby live in Victoria, BC. They are not doing as much music now, however,
being an adventurist, Frank has ventured out on to a busy Victoria causeway as
a Busker. Frank has also participated as an extra in movies including "little
women" and others. He continues to participate in television commercials
and is looking forward to new challenges and adventures. |
