Larry Ewashen

A Note From the Project Director:

In my many years in working on various projects - in all aspects of media conveyance from audio to video, I have met many, and perhaps by now, thousands of clients. I have had the opportunity to get to know many of these on a personal basis and have had varied views of each.

This project, the Digital Jukebox, was a monumental task of inputting the archives, describing each, and I had the opportunity to work with Mr. Ewashen extensively and continuously - for nearly five months whilst this project was undertaken. (My sincere thanks go out to many who helped in one way or another while I worked on this project).

While under Larry's 'supervision', I had free 'reign' to cast and shape the project I had envisioned and was not encumbered by 'burden', but encouraged by Larry's supervision.

What impressed me first, was the amount of written materials that was in the museum's holdings, that was provided by Larry himself! I had recognized that Mr. Ewashen was a prolific writer, but his contribution to the history of the Doukhobors was beyond amazement.

The second (and perhaps more important) impression I have regarding my involvement with the Doukhobor Village Museum is that of its current curator (yes, by the same name).

I admired and observed countless hours where Larry would not only 'entertain' the museum's visitors with knowledgeable rhetoric, but would attend and host a multitude of meetings promoting both the Museum and Doukhobor heritage and culture. Though not a term that Doukhobors use often (because of its military origin), Larry repeatedly went well 'beyond the call of duty' in doing what he thought best for the preservation of his heritage.

It is in this Project Director's hopes that Larry A. Ewashen will be recognized for his outstanding contribution to the Doukhobor heritage, and the Doukhobor doctrine - which throughout time, has not been compromised.

To Larry, a heartfelt "Spasiba"
