| Write it in Your Heart and Proclaim it in Song is
the title (translated from Russian) of a double record album that Russian Doukhobors
have released under the Aprelevka Sound Inc. label in stereo sound. In 1993, after
the new freedoms of the Soviet Union, history repeated itself, and the Doukhobors
of the Bogdonovka Raiion once again faced persecution, this time from the newly
independent states surrounding them. The Russian government provided refuge for
them in the Cherns Raiion near Tula, south of Moscow. After regrouping, they were
provided with funding to record their traditional melodies, some of which were
hundreds of years old. The first album of this two album set features the psalms,
the second album, spiritual rhymes, songs and ballads. |

These renditions are provided by the elders and provide an important preservation of their oral tradition. Sadly, most of these elders have now passed over. The beautiful dust jacket is illustrated with coloured photos from the historical site of the Arms Burning of 1895, and the illustrations also show their colourful costumes and scenes of their handiwork. All proceeds from sales of this historic set are sent to the Russian Doukhobors to aid their continuing resettlement in their new abode. This double album set is available for $20 plus postage & handling by contacting Larry Ewashen at the Doukhobor Village Museum in Castlegar, BC. |
