Fundraising

The Doukhobor Discovery Centre (DDC) is operated by the Kootenay Doukhobor Historical Society (KDHS), a registered non-profit organization. The DDC has four basic sources of revenue: earnings from seasonal operations, City of Castlegar allocated funds, grants, and donations.

The DDC's seasonal earnings, from admissions and Gift Shop sales, are applied to wages, operational costs, and special projects. As the museum itself is owned by the City of Castlegar, the city allocated funds go toward operations, maintenance and capital repairs/upgrades at the Discovery Centre. The KDHS annually submits grant applications to cover summer student wages and supplement special projects and programs. And, finally, donations come in through the Gift Shop, as well as during fundraising events for special projects.

We invite donations in a variety of formats:

Cash & Cheques

We welcome cash and cheque donations at any time. May and June are often the months in which we feel financial pressure, since we are spending money on programs, staff and facilities while our summer income hasn’t yet hit its stride.

Cash or Cheque donations can be made in person at the Doukhobor Discovery Centre Gift Shop. Cheques can also be made out and mailed to:

Online & Credit Cards

Donations can be made online using PayPal. Donating online is easy, quick, secure and, should you wish to make a donation using your credit card, does not require registration of a PayPal account. We offer tax receipts for donations over $25 received via PayPal.

Projects & Events

Cash donations are taken during a number of annual events throughout our open season, to support our Artifact Restoration project and other future projects and programs. Typically, no money is spent until enough has been raised to cover the cost of each project.

A number of capital projects that have taken place to date are an Infrastructure Upgrade, Kiosk and Signage Installation, Courtyard Sidewalk Replacement, Implement Shed Safety Fencing, Heritage Wagons Restoration, and Audio Visual Lighting and Sound Upgrade. Currently we are raising funds for the renovation of our Village Bistro by selling "Bistro Borshch" at the Village Market.
