Projects & Events

There's always something going on the the Doukhnobor Discovery Centre! Dedicated projects and special events are a major part of the Kootenay Doukhobor Historical Society's commitment to preserving and sharing Doukhobor cultural heritage with visitors to the DDC.

Focused projects, with emphasis on improvements and upgrades to infrastructure, facilities, exhibits and promotion of the Doukhobor Discovery Centre, are coordinated and carried out each year. These projects are made possible through the support of funding programs and partnerships, donations, fundraising efforts and volunteer participation.

Hosting and participating in events is an integral part of the Doukhobor Discovery Centre season. Each year the Kootenay Doukhobor Historical Society Annual General Meeting coincides with the DDC Season Opening celebration in May, Petrov Dyen (Peter's Day) commemoration ceremonies are held in June, admission-free days are offered during the Columbia Basin Culture Tours in August, and a BC Culture Days open house weekend takes place in September. In addition to these annual events, a variety of special events and private functions take place at the DDC each year.

The following lists our most recent projects and events. Read the DDC News to learn more about past projects and events or to find out what's happening next at the Doukhobor Discovery Centre.

Glade Panoramic Photo Acquisition

The Glade Panoramic Photo originally found its way into the possession of the USCC Cultural Interpretive Society which printed and framed the image using archive grade materials. Lacking the space to display it, the ladies decided to sell the framed print and requested that it might be put on display for sale at the Doukhobor Discovery Centre. Hanging inside the Gift Shop of the DDC, the print soon became an integral part of the museum tour experience resulting in the search for funding to acquire the heritage image.

The Kootenay Doukhobor Historical Society acknowledge the Columbia Basin Trust and Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance for funding towards the Glade Panoramic Photo Acquisition Project.
